Trek to Chandratal Lake

The bad news is that, as the parking area is away from the lake, a short trek of about 2 km to Chandratal Lake is mandatory, and you may also feel uneasy due to the higher altitude. But, you are going to love every inch of the distance as you will be too busy admiring the serene landscapes, spotting and capturing wildlife, basically, having the best time of your life. I was not able to put my camera away for even a second, as it would literally be an insult to those beautiful views along the paths.

2. Kunzum Mata Temple

Kunzum Mata Temple

The aura of this temple was enough to give me goosebumps. Located at one of the highest drivable passes, Kunzum Pass, the temple is dedicated to Kunzum Mata, a form of Durga Maa. The feeling, the divinity, will make you forget everything else in the world. If you also want to experience something unreal, then this has to be on your bucket list.

3. Camping

Camping at Chandratal Lake

A local told me that your trip will be incomplete if you skip camping, and thank god I listened to him. But if you are someone who loves comfort, camping is not for you.

I remember walking about 2-3 km to reach the campsites, which was a beautiful hike in itself. Eating the delicious food prepared by the locals and listening to their life stories has to be one of the most memorable moments of my trip.

4. Stargazing

Stargazing at Chandratal Lake

Stargazing while camping was one of my favorite experiences from the trip. Sometimes all you need is to do nothing, sit silently, and stare at the endless sky. 5. Chandratal to Baralacha La Trek

Chandratal to Baralacha La Trek

This trek is arguably the most challenging part of my trip as I stopped a million times, just to regain my breath. You should only attempt this trek if you are fully fit, as it is a multi-day trek that can take up to 6–7 days. But once you reach the Baralacha La, the source of the Chandra River, I swear all your hard work will be worth it.

6. Himalayan Biodiversity
