1. Relaxing on the Beaches

Panama City Beach

The beaches here are simply stunning. I spent my mornings walking barefoot along the 27 miles of sugar-white sand, taking in the sun rising and reflecting across the turquoise waters. Some mornings I just propped my towel and a book up, and relaxed, other days I would play beach volleyball with a local pick-up group. Public places such as Rick Seltzer Park Beach and Russell-Fields Pier became my favorite beaches quickly due to their accessibility and great views.

2. Trying Water Sports & Adventures

Panama City Beach Water Sports

I couldn’t help but dive right into water sports. First off, I tried parasailing! That was so awesome as I could see all around the ocean and see the coast from such a height. Another day, I decided to rent a jet ski and fly across the ocean. It was unforgettable, even if it was a little pricey, and also made me feel like a kid again.

The highlight was a dolphin cruise, though. Watching pods of dolphins swimming and engaging with the boat was unforgettable. If you are an adventure and water sports type of person, you will definitely enjoy a trip to Panama City Beach.

3. Strolling Through Pier Park

Pier Park Panama City Beach

No visit to Panama City Beach is complete without some time spent at Pier Park. I spent a whole afternoon taking advantage of the shopping boutiques, restaurants, and places to have fun. I had ice cream from a local shop and watched a movie at the theater.

Pier Park was easily the coolest area with activity at sundown, along with all of the crowds at a beachside bar for live music and a cocktail!

4. Hiking in St. Andrews State Park

St Andrews State Park Panama City Beach

After so much excitement in the city, I was hoping for a little bit of nature. St. Andrews State Park provided just the escape I needed.

I hiked on trails shaded by lovely pine trees, saw herons and pelicans around the lagoon, and even attempted kayaking in the glassy water. In addition to hiking and kayaking, the park also has camping and fishing, so it would be a great place for someone who enjoys those activities too.

5. Boat Trip to Shell Island

Shell Island Panama City Beach

One of the highlights of my trip was taking an exciting boat trip to Shell Island. This barrier island, in its natural state, was like being in a postcard – no shops, no restaurants, just bare natural beauty. I even snorkeled for hours in the crystal-clear water to see several colorful fish, and walked quietly along the unspoiled beach. It was a bit of paradise and should be on everyone’s bucket list. It was one of the best things to do in Panama City Beach.

6. Helicopter Tour at Panama City Beach

If you are looking for some fun things to do in Panama City Beach, I strongly recommend a helicopter tour over the coastline. It’s one of the best ways to experience the beautiful views and unique arrangement of the national and state parks in the area.

I didn’t have the opportunity to experience this when I visited, but from what I have heard, it is definitely a bucket-list worthy adventure for every traveler.

7. Dolphins at Gulf World Marine Park

Gulf World Marine Park Panama City Beach

Out of my love for the ocean, I couldn’t wait to stop by Gulf World Marine Park. The dolphin and sea lion shows took me back in time to my days as a young child. They also offer interactive programs that put you up close and personal with the animals. It was fun and educational! I would consider it one of the best things to do in Panama City Beach, FL, especially with kids.

8. Exploring Family-Friendly Attractions

Despite my solo status, I couldn’t ignore some of the attractions for families. WonderWorks was really cool, I loved the upside-down building! Inside, I was able to experience many interactive science exhibits and even a ropes course! Ripley’s, believe it or not, had some pretty crazy attractions. I saw shrunken heads and optical illusions. Even the mini golf parks seemed fun for all ages.

9. Enjoying Local Food & Dining

If I missed anything, it was seafood. Most evenings, I enjoyed fried grouper sandwiches, oysters, and shrimp tacos, all regional favorites. The various options ranged from beach shacks to upscale restaurants with ocean views, all serving amazing seafood. Eating fresh seafood while watching the sunset will be one of my lasting memories.
