There are several recreational activities in Singanallur Tamil Nadu, that can add excitement to your journey. This is why I chose to escape to this quaint junction for a short holiday with friends to rejuvenate myself from the monotony of life. In this article, I will guide you on how to make the most out of your short trip to Singanallur.

History of Singanallur

Singanallur Lakee

Singanallur Tamil Nadu, is a relatively small locality of 25 sq. km, it carries a rich history and cultural traditions. The locality received its name from the Chola Queen Singar Ammal, mother of King Karikala Chola. In the 2nd Century AD, Karikala Chola donated the village as a “Chaturvedi Mangalam” to the priestly class, who held extensive knowledge of the four Vedas.

During the colonial period, Singanallur underwent modernization with the development of roads and railways. This development was carried further in the 20th century through the growth of the textile industry.

As of today, Singanallur has developed to become an important junction in Coimbatore. However, this quaint locality still retains its culture through the extant temples and traditional practices.

Vellangiri Hills

If you are looking for a challenge or spiritual clarity, then you need to do a trek to the Vellangiri Hills. You need to climb up seven hills before you can reach the Vellangiri Temple. This is a fairly difficult trek. If you are a newbie trekker or not athletic, I suggest you climb the first few hills to enjoy the views and refreshing air.

Whatever may be your level of experience, always carry the essentials such as water, snacks, a basic first-aid kit, and trekking poles for a safer adventure. We visited the D Mart Singanallur to purchase all the essentials. You can also check out the mall before heading towards the Vellangiri Hills. It was well-stocked and is one of the best places to shop for essentials in Singanallur.

Plan a visit to the Ulagalantha Perumal Temple to enhance spirituality, and also, if you are interested in learning about the religio-cultural history of Singanallur Tamil Nadu. The temple houses the idol of Lord Thrivikrama, an avatar of the Hindu deity Lord Vishnu.

I was lucky to visit the temple during the Vaikuntha Ekadasi, when the main entrance was beautifully decorated as if it were the gateway to heaven. The ancient Perumal temple is an integral part of the lives of the people of Singanallur, offering a spiritual respite from their everyday woes.

This city has a lively street shopping culture, and the local cuisines will blow your mind. I visited the Uzhavar Sandhai, the farmer’s market, for a unique experience. Inspired by the Russian Kolkhoz, the market brings the agricultural products, fruits, vegetables, and local handicrafts directly from the producer to the buyer. I brought a couple of fresh fruits and handmade soaps at an unbelievable price.

Padayal No Oil No Boil Restaurant

For dinner, we went to the Padayal No Oil No Boil Restaurant, which was a unique experience. Hands down, this is one of the best restaurants in Singanallur Coimbatore.

Thanks to Karthik, our server, we got to taste many innovative dishes here. What surprised me the most was the way they prepared the okra, since it was neither boiled nor fried in oil. I did not know raw food could taste so good when naturally processed with the right ingredients.

My friends are quite crazy about vintage cars, and it won’t be an exaggeration if I say that they dragged me to the GD Naidu Car Museum. But once I reached the museum, I understood the craze.

There were vintage car models of Ford, Fiat, Beetle, Mercedes-Benz, etc. This museum is a must-visit place for all car enthusiasts. Since the museum is a little far off from Singanallur Tamil Nadu, we boarded a bus at the Singanallur bus stand for an easy commute.
